my name is chris and i listen to a normal amount of music and i have a normal amount of opinions about them and this is a normal site to make a normal amount of posts about them instead of elsewhere

a lot of the music i listen to could be categorised as post-rock or shoegaze and genres close to those, but nothing is off the table. i wouldn’t feel qualified, however, to make an attempt at writing anything remotely meaningful regarding, say, hip-hop or folk or k-pop. i’m pushing it as it is.

part of why i like listening to instrumental/lyric-less music is because i struggle with comprehending words and music at the same time, let alone any subtext. honestly most of the time i struggle with words without music. to quote a great philosopher: i wanna cut to the feeling. though i should stress that music with words can also be good, and can also, cut to the feeling. like cut to the feeling.

you could ask why i am trying to use words to describe wordless music, something i get mad about when other people try do that, because i don’t know them or their experiences, i don’t know the lens through which their reception of a piece is filtered. a 6 from a friend means a lot more to me than a 9.1 and a dozen sentences crammed with unnecessary literary flourishes from Jarzipan Toadhole writing for Pitchfork. though in reality a friend would not give a record a numerical score because that’s astronomically pointless. they’d say it’s good, and that i’d like it, and i should listen to it. in answer to your hypothetical question, no, i don’t know why either.

sometimes a post will be a couple paragraphs about why i like something. sometimes it will just be “i like it and maybe you will too.”

anyway if you wanna write about your own taste in music you can just set up a blog. you can do that. and you don’t have to worry about who reads it or what they think because you aren’t trying to be a writer, you aren’t trying to have a career, you just wanna write about something that means something to you and everyone’s entitled to do that. so i’m doing that.
